Gallery WW (“Gallery Double ‘W’”) was founded by Aden Weisel in 2017. The Gallery is based in Baltimore, Maryland and exists online, with physical exhibitions generously hosted by multiple sites.
The emerging artists represented by Gallery WW are diverse in their personal demographics, choice of media, and subject matter. In 2016, artists Dave Eassa and Emily Schubert were invited to participate in the early stages of Gallery WW. They were chosen for their work to expand the possibilities of their respective media. Eassa creates paintings with dimension and sculptures that look like paintings come to life—contrary to famed art critic, Clement Greenberg's theories on the separation of media. Schubert is primarily a textile artist, working in puppetry and costuming for her own performances--she is bringing 'women's work,' 'craft' and 'entertainment' to 'Fine Arts.'
Gallery WW keeps an eye towards growth and innovation. Baltimore presents a fresh art scene compared to the staid institutions of major arts centers. The Gallery offers services for collectors looking to add innovative, new talent to their art collections. In addition to art for the wall and the pedestal, the Gallery seeks to push into unconventional arts spaces: restaurants, community centers, and performance halls among them. Gallery WW and its featured artists probe contemporary questions about the personal, public, and political.
